Boliden is a long-standing zinc production company located in Odda, a small industrial town in Vestland county. Today, it delivers more than 200,000 tonnes of cast zinc to customers across Norway every year. To realise their plans to expand zinc production, Boliden kick-started Green Zinc Odda 4.0 project.
What is the Green Zinc Odda 4.0 project?
Green Zinc Odda 4.0 (GZO) is a plant expansion project designed to modernise and enhance zinc production operations. This includes building new roasters and sulphuric acid plants to improve production sustainability. Without compromising on productivity, GZO project is expected to raise Boliden's annual production capacity to 350,000 tonnes of zinc upon completion, almost doubling its current production capacity.

Draga’s contribution to Green Zinc Odda 4.0 project
To boost production efficiency, Draga joined the GZO project to improve data management. Our team developed custom tools to integrate data from engineering documents and drawings to different operation databases for faster data retrieval and smoother workflow.
To further streamline this process, we added specific Tagtype and System attributes to each data for quicker data search and proper alignment to the latest Engineering Number System, ultimately speeding up the initial data collection and extraction process.
The green products of zinc production
Our introduction of automation and digitalisation to the zinc production process helped Boliden take big steps towards driving sustainability and production efficiency. With advanced digital technologies and a flexible asset register that enables data sharing between project stakeholders, Boliden not only achieves healthier energy consumption but also lowers its carbon footprint in zinc production.

Being near natural water sources like waterfalls, fjords, and river valleys means that Boliden can harness clean hydro power to operate its entire production process— from roasting to electrolysis and casting. This gives Boliden a reliable source of energy, ensuring a smooth and efficient operation.
Steering towards a more sustainable future
With the Green Zinc Odda 4.0 Project set to boost production in May 2025, Boliden is laying a foundation for a greener and more sustainable future. Draga is proud to support Boliden’s environmental goals with reliable data maintenance and documentation. We cannot wait to see how the project unfolds.
